Blood Red Mountain Band

Currently signed to Primate State Records are the 'Blood Red Mountain Band'. The Blood Reds (shorter and easier -Ed) got together in early 2004, and have spent the past year and a half rehearsing and refining their sound. They recently down-sized their 7 piece line-up to a 5 piece, with most of the members now playing multiple instruments. Luckily, all this hard work has not been in vain; they have been making headway recently with a host of gigs, and other opportunities coming their merry way...

The Blood Red line-up features these happy souls;

  • Mark Flynn - Lead Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica
  • Joe Browne - Bass, Backing Vocals
  • Lucy Jackson - Fiddle, Gourd, Backing Vocals
  • Hugh Travers - Drums, Backing Vocals, Keys
  • Ian Devlin - Charango, Guitar, Harmonica

The sound owes a lot to the ethos of 60s/70s Americana maestros - ‘The Band’ - with every song being treated as an individual work and receiving due care. That’s not to say that there is no theme or thread to the almost arcane sounds; there is. Flynn’s deceptively simple chord progressions are the engine that drives this train along. The vocals sound as broken-hearted as they are strong, as venomous as they are forgiving. Other influences that may be discerned include The Waterboys, Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, Thin Lizzy and Neil Young. And without being overtly trad, there is a strong Irish undertow to the melodies.
